he Enugu State Government has announced the commencement of a Free Christmas Transport Intervention Scheme designed to support Enugu indigenes living outside the state to return home for the Christmas and New Year celebrations.The initiative, approved as part of the government’s seasonal social support programmes, seeks to ease the burden of rising transportation costs while promoting family reunification and cultural bonding during the festive period.
Under the scheme, free transportation will be provided to duly registered Enugu indigenes travelling from major cities across the country. The programme will be implemented in about 30 states, including Abuja, Lagos, Jos, Ibadan, Kaduna, Kano, Minna, Gombe, Ilorin, Sokoto, Jalingo, Bauchi, Nasarawa and Port Harcourt, among others.Beneficiaries are scheduled to arrive in Enugu between December 22 and 24, where they will be officially received at Holy Ghost Terminal 2 by representatives of the Enugu State Government.Eligibility for the scheme is limited to bona fide Enugu indigenes who are properly registered with their respective Enugu State Town Unions in their states of residence. This requirement is to ensure transparency, accountability and effective coordination of the programme.
