T he Caretaker Committee Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Dr Ben Nwoye, has reaffirmed Governor Peter Mbah as the leader of the party in the state, while President Bola Tinubu remains the APC’s National Leader. Dr Nwoye made the remarks while featuring as a guest on Sunrise FM’s "Matters of the Moment", where he spoke on the topic, “2027 Elections & APC E-Registration Exercise: Why Enugu State Leads South East in Membership Drive.” Recall that Governor Peter Mbah flagged off of the APC e-registration exercise at Owo, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, January 8 this year and, described the exercise as a defining moment to concretise the movement from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.
Dr Ben Nwoye reechoed the governor's position that the APC in Enugu State has set a target of registering over two million members ahead of the 2027 general elections, noting that about 500,000 members have already been captured in the ongoing e-registration exercise. He attributed the surge in membership to the unity within the party, which he said was fostered by Governor Peter Mbah’s leadership. Dr Nwoye added that many politicians and supporters defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are eager to formally regularise their membership in the APC.
