Enugu, UNICEF Urge Accuracy as MICS7 Begins

he Enugu State Government and UNICEF have urged over 70 trained data collectors from the five South-East states to ensure accuracy during the seventh round of the Nigeria Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS 7).

They also called on community leaders and households to support the exercise, which begins on December 3, 2025, by providing truthful information.

Speaking at the flag-off in Enugu, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu state represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Chidiebere Onyiaemphasized the importance of reliable data in shaping policies on education, health, infrastructure, and climate action.

He noted that the MICS survey, developed by UNICEF and implemented by the National Bureau of Statistics, provides up-to-date information on the well-being of children, women, men, and households.

Onyia urged communities to share credible information, as it will guide the government in improving or reinforcing existing policies.

He also appreciated UNICEF for its continued partnership with Enugu State across health, education, sanitation, and now data collection.

UNICEF Enugu Field Office Chief, Juliet Chiluwe, in her goodwill message, appealed to households to fully cooperate with the interviewers.

She highlighted MICS as Nigeria’s most reliable survey on children and women, providing evidence for tracking human capital development, child rights, and progress toward the SDGs.

She also commended the field teams, whose accuracy will determine the quality of the data produced.

Chiluwe noted that with nearly 105 million children in Nigeria, the need for timely and detailed data is critical.

She assured communities that all information gathered will be treated with strict confidentiality.
