ollowing its commitment to ensuring that every road in Enugu metropolis is paved and motorable, Enugu State Government has approved the award of contract for the expansion, reconstruction and rehabilitation of additional 1,022 urban roads in its 3rd phase of road project in the state.
The State Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Benjamin Okoh, and his information counterpart, Dr Malachi Agbo, made this known while briefing the press on the outcome of the state executive council meeting presided over by governor Peter Mbah at the Exco Chamber, Government House Enugu.
Okoh who said the 3rd phase of the road project cuts across the entire urban areas including Asata, Uwani, Achara-layout, Old-GRA, New-GRA, Emene, Abakpa-nike, Thinkers Corner, Independence Layout among numerous others, noted that the roads are about 360 kilometers.
Speaking on the yet to be completed roads, captured and flagged off for construction in the 2nd phase, the Works and Infrastructure Commissioner blamed the delays on the rainy season, and assured that the roads will be completed in a couple of months as contractors have been mobilised to sites.
Also in the spirit of Christmas with the nickname "Dirty December", the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Ugochi Madueke said the state is loaded with several social activities from comedy shows to musical concerts which have already commenced in the state with the 042 festival, and would be crowned with a Roadblock holding at Okpara Square Enugu on December 23, 2025.
She said the Mmonwu-Ogbe festival would take place on December 18 at Afia-nine by Obiagu, where heavy masquerades are expected to showcase themselves as a prelude to the proper Mmonwu festival on December 20 where every local government area is expected to display their cultural heritage at Michael Okpara Square Enugu.
The state executive council, according to the Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Dr Sam Ogbu-Nwobodo, also approved the Business Enabling Reform Action Plan for 2026, aimed at entrenching a business-friendly ecosystem in Enugu, which translates to robust engagement with the private sector and increase interest in investment inflow into the state.
