Public Affairs Analyst, Dr Chikezie Obasi, has criticised recent attack threats issued by United States President Donald Trump against Colombia, Cuba and Mexico, describing them as a dangerous violation of international norms and respect for sovereignty.
Dr Obasi made this known while featuring as a guest on Sunrise FM Matters of the Moment, where he spoke on the topic “New Trump Attack Threats To Colombia, Cuba & Mexico: Re-Ordering Latin America By Force?”
He said the United States was making a grievous mistake by attempting to invade or intimidate other sovereign nations of the world.
According to him, the United States still operates under the illusion that it can exert hegemonic influence on other countries, noting that such a mindset no longer reflects present global realities.
He stated that Donald Trump has failed to realise that the world has moved on from the era when a single power could dictate global affairs.
Dr Obasi stressed that the countries being threatened are sovereign states and should be allowed to determine their own political and economic destinies without external coercion.
He added that the actions and rhetoric attributed to Trump run contrary to internationally acceptable norms and principles guiding relations among nations.
He therefore called for mutual respect among nations, insisting that the era of a unipolar world order is over and that global stability can only be achieved through respect for sovereignty, dialogue and adherence to international law.
